Wall of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning; We will remember them. These famous words come from the famous poem, For the Fallen, by Robert Laurence Binyon.

Roland was born in Perth, NB in 1918. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in February 1940 and was sent overseas a few months later, in May. Roland served with the Carleton and York Regiment in England and Sicily. He was killed in action on “Beginner’s Hill” near Agira, Sicily
in July 1943. Roland rests in the Canadian War Cemetery at Agira, Sicily.
